ROME, NY — The Griffiss Institute (GI) is happy to announce the appointment of new board member Charles Green to its board of directors. Charles Green is the Co-Founder, President and CEO of Assured Information Security (AIS), a cyber and information security company founded in 2001 and headquartered in Rome, New York.

“The GI is proactively working with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to create a national and international innovation hub for collaborative research and development of the future workforce in Information Sciences,” said Board Chair, Ms. Patricia Baskinger. “I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Charles Green, AIS CEO, to the Griffiss Institute Board of Directors. Mr. Green’s entrepreneurial and business experience will be a great asset to the GI board and the organization in furthering our mission and vision.”

“I am pleased with Charles Green’s addition to the Griffiss Institute board,” said Steven J. DiMeo, President of Mohawk Valley EDGE. “He brings private sector expertise and business acumen that will complement the growing mission of the GI. With the ever-changing world of cyber defense and security, the GI plays a critical role in creating a responsive and flexible business environment to enable the collaboration of private industry, academia and the AFRL Information Directorate.”

Green has more than 20 years of experience in offensive and defensive information operations, as well as Department of Defense (DoD) information assurance (IA) research and development. Initially working as a contractor for AFRL, Green supported its program to investigate software and technologies to better protect critical military and civil information systems. Green and AIS, under his leadership, continue to support AFRL and its cyber mission. AIS has produced many specialized products for the highest levels of government in cybersecurity and computer network operations.

As a long-standing member of the community, he is a strong advocate for regional initiatives and economic development.

Green earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from SUNY IT in Utica, New York, and currently sits on the Board of Directors for Central New York Defense Alliance (CNYDA), GreyCastle Security and Mohawk Valley Edge (MVEDGE). He is also a member of the Mohawk Valley Regional Development Council (MVREDC). In 2019, Green was a semifinalist for Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year® (EOY) New York Award.

“I’m truly honored to be joining a team of brilliant professionals who are committed to advancing research and innovation both locally and nationally,” said Green. “By joining the GI Board of Directors, I’m eager to help in the pursuit of the GI mission to create opportunities for collaboration, growth and success in our community and beyond.”

Green joins Chairperson Patricia Baskinger, AX Enterprize; Vice Chairperson, William Gray, retired, Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate; Secretary Regan Johnson, Griffiss Institute; and Treasurer Steve DiMeo, Mohawk Valley EDGE.

Additional board members include Peter Baildon, M&T Bank; Dr. Shiu-Kai Chin, Syracuse University; Frank DuRoss, MVCC Foundation, Utica Comets, Utica City FC; Dr. John Marsh, SUNY Polytechnic; Dr. Raymond Philo, Utica College; Vincent Schoonmaker, The Printery; and William VanShufflin, Mohawk Valley EDGE.

The Griffiss Institute mission is to provide a responsive and flexible business environment to enable the collaboration of private industry, academia, and the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate. This business environment enhances the facilitation of research that leads to new solutions in information sciences, spinning out new business opportunities, locally and nationally, and providing a dynamic environment to enable the advancement of the future scientific and engineering workforce.
