Griffiss Institute Set to Support National Air Force STEM Initiatives

Air Force STEM

ROME, NY — The Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate (AFRL/RI) has approved another Partnership Intermediary Agreement with the Griffiss Institute, an independent not-for-profit located at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park, in Rome, NY. The value of the new contract has a ceiling of $99.5 million over the 5-year period.

A Partnership Intermediary, a unique Congressional authority, allows a qualified not-for-profit organization to provide services that promote the transfer, or exchange, of technology with state and local governments, academia, and industry, into and out of, government research facilities.

This Partnership Intermediary is the second Partnership Intermediary approved for the Griffiss Institute in the past three months and will provide funds for the Griffiss Institute to support STEM activities at a national and international level, at 35 Air Force bases in 22 states, and overseas in Italy and Japan.

According to Bill Wolf, Griffiss Institute’s president, “STEM activities have always been an important part of the support that the Institute has provided to the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate. The Institute has facilitated STEM Programs for local schools since 2008. This new Partnership Intermediary will extend our program to support students at middle schools through high schools, and colleges, at a national and international level.”
